Eating options are similarly varied, from pizza and ice cream to an America-style diner, while the neighbouring town of Porthcawl offers seven equally swimmable beaches. A short walk from the picturesque harbour at Saundersfoot, Moreton Farm Leisure Park offers up a grab bag of beautiful beaches, rocky coves, and charming local fisheries. The Park itself is set in a secluded woodland valley with a tranquil, family-friendly vibe, perfect for getting away from it all – while the nearby Pembroke and Carew castles will demand at least an afternoon each. But the headline act is still the sea: Bathe in the lapping waves, charter a local fishing boat, or learn to sail in a rented Laser or Topper.

Within the gorgeous Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park on a 200 mile stretch of protected shoreline, the beaches by Kiln Park boast some of the clearest and cleanest waters in the UK. Enjoy the views with a seaside wander, or pop up the road to enjoy the water sports facilities at sister park Lydstep Beach. For the homebodies among you, there’s a full menu of on-site entertainment – indoor and outdoor pools, mini golf, and ten-pin bowling. Ensconced on the coastline ‘where the mountains meet the sea’, this park is all about bracing breezes, vertiginous trails and stunning scenery. Greenacres has made the coastal walk its own, and the Blue Flag beach at Black Rock Sands gives way to a vast expanse of undulating dune. For more adventurous sorts, Snowdonia National Park is a twenty-minute drive away, while culture vultures will be well served by the nearby Criccieth Castle. A child and dog-friendly park, there’s still plenty to entertain within park limits – archery, fencing, adventure golf and an on-site chippy.

It may not have the heat of Florida, but Quay West South Wales still has plenty of warm pool water, indoor and outdoor, for swimming, splashing and sliding.

A woodland trail leads you down to a pristine beach flanked by rugged coastline, sometimes visited dolphins. There’s also plenty to do on dry land, including mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, high ropes, and bungee trampolining. Activities are cheaper if you book a bundle in advance.

A walk away from the picturesque fishing village of New Quay, an on-site fishing lake stocked with carp makes Pencnwc a perfect escape for those that love the baited hook. Kids will enjoy the indoor swimming pool, games room and clubhouse, but perhaps the biggest draw is the price. £695 will cadge you a four-person caravan for an entire week in August.
