Cardiff just got a serious flavour upgrade with Hickory’s Smokehouse, serving up an authentic taste of the Deep South.

From the moment you walk in, it’s all rustic wood, twinkling lights and the hum of blues and barbecue. The vibe? Straight out of Louisiana with a dash of Tennessee swagger.

We kicked off with a round of appetisers that hit harder than a Southern sunrise. The Brisket Popcorn Bites were melt-in-your-mouth divine, tender, juicy and pure smoky bliss. Frickles (that’s fried pickles, y’all) were crunchy, sweet and had just enough Cajun kick to make you crave another dip in that proper smoky BBQ sauce. And those Giant Garlic Buttered Pretzel Bites? Buttery, cheesy heaven with a rich, creamy sauce that could make a grown cowboy weep. But the real showstopper? The Smoky Bourbon Bacon Bits, sweet, crisp and smoky perfection with a blue cheese dip that tied it all together.

Then came the Smokehouse Platter, a Texas feast and meat lover’s dream. Think marbled beef brisket, Memphis-style ribs, smoked jalapeño sausage and honey-glazed pork belly, every bite juicy and bursting with deep, smoky flavour. The dirty corn ribs and magic-dusted tater tots on the side brought pure joy, while the mac ’n’ cheese added that touch of homemade Southern comfort.

Dessert sealed the deal, table-toasted campfire s’mores and cherry pie pan cakes made for a sweet, nostalgic finale. And don’t even get us started on the cocktails: How Momma Made It, a bourbon masterpiece served with half a blackberry pie, is the kind of drink you’ll dream about.

With friendly staff, a huge car park and country music vibes, Hickory’s is the Deep South, done right. Book your table now and take your appetite… you’re gonna need it.
