The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea is delighted to present, in partnership with Bad Wolf, a look behind-the-scenes of BBC and HBO’s multi-award-winning His Dark Materials. Based on Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of novels, the series concludes with the third and final season later this year.
For the first time in this major exhibition, visitors will be able to see costumes, concept art, visual effects footage, props and more from across all three seasons.
His Dark Materials: World Building in Wales opens Thursday 1 December, 5.30pm and continues at the gallery until 23 April 2023. Look out for a series of events and workshops in the New Year, in partnership with Screen Alliance Wales, Bad Wolf and IJPR Media.
The winter season at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery continues with an Arts Council Collection touring exhibition, The World We Live In, Art and the Urban Environment, bringing together painting, sculpture, photography, and film, to explore themes ranging from urban development to migration and the relationship between inner cities and suburbia. Until Sunday 8 January 2023.
In Room 7, Past, Present and Future – Welsh Icons, features ten photographic portraits from the National Portrait Gallery, London, which explore Welsh identity, together with works from two Welsh photographers, Mohamed Hassan and Megan Winstone.
The works from the National Portrait Gallery highlight well-known Welsh people including The Bevans (Aneurin Bevan, Jenni Lee, Karol Keres; Pietro Nenni) by Henri Cartier-Bresson; singer Shirley Bassey by Mike Owen, and actor Richard Burton by Irving Penn. Alongside these portraits, artists Mohamed Hassan and Megan Winstone display a selection of their own work depicting people in Wales today. Until Sunday 29 January 2023.
