Heading up the only production in Wales is Swansea based society Abbey Players who, in collaboration with Cockett Amateur Operatic Society and Swansea Amateur Operatic Society, will perform Les Miserables from July 10-19 at Swansea Grand Theatre.

For the first time, and in celebration of 40 years of the iconic musical, Cameron Mackintosh and Music Theatre International have invited 11 adult amateur groups in the UK to stage the full show while it still continues its successful run in London’s West End.The project, called ‘Let the People Sing’, will showcase local amateur performers in their own unique version of the show.

Simon Lloyd-Jones, chairman of Abbey Players said,

“I was 14 when I first saw Les Miserables at Bristol Hippodrome and have loved it ever since.I am so excited by the unique collaboration which is at the heart of this project. Working closely with the 2 other societies on this venture has been a joy so far and will grow as the process continues.‘Let the People Sing’ is going to make so many childhood dreams come true and we are so excited to get started, welcoming people from across South Wales to our auditions and producing the best amateur production that Wales has ever seen.’

Grant McFarlane, General Manager of Swansea Grand Theatre, added,

“We are delighted as a theatre to be hosting this once in a lifetime opportunity for local performers to stage this incredible show. We are very much looking forward to July 2025”
