From the moment Leah and Matt set eyes on Hensol Castle they knew their wedding day was going to be something special. The vision blossomed into a beautiful summer celebration filled with love, laughter and meaningful personal touches.

With family at the heart of everything, and even a business inspired by their beloved dog, this couple created a day that was uniquely theirs. Here, Leah shares the story behind their unforgettable wedding journey.
How did you find planning the wedding, and how long did it take you?
It was actually okay! The excitement took over any stress of it all. We originally planned to get married two years after our engagement, but we decided to push it back another year for financial reasons so we could truly have everything we wanted.

Where was the wedding ceremony and reception held?
We had the whole wedding day at Hensol Castle. It was exclusively ours for the day, and we fell in love with the castle the minute we saw it. We always wanted a big wedding, and Hensol Castle was the perfect fit for us.
What was the colour theme or inspiration for the wedding?
At first, we wanted a winter wedding, but that soon changed when we visited the venue in the sunshine and saw it all dressed, it looked stunning! So our theme changed from winter and dark reds to summer and nude/beige tones.
What were the flowers like?
We went with simple flowers to match our overall theme. We had all white flowers with different textures. White roses were a prominent feature, mixed with other blooms to create a soft, elegant look.

Did you include any special extras or personal touches?
We didn’t have many extras, we felt having family and friends together would be enough. However, we did have Nerys Clark playing the cello during the day, which was absolute perfection.
We also really wanted to include our dog, Alfie, as part of our day, but we couldn’t find anyone to bring him to the venue for photos. That experience actually inspired us to start our now highly recommended dog wedding chaperone business, Alfie’s Retreat Dog Wedding Chaperone, so we can do for other couples what we couldn’t have. It’s such a special role for a dog to be part of your wedding day.
I also made little favours, small bottles with scratch cards inside, labelled “We hope you get lucky tonight.”
Was there entertainment in the evening?
The evening entertainment was the best part of our day! We cannot recommend Concept Executive DJ Service enough. He arrived more than early and left more than late, providing a top-class service throughout the entire night.

Tell us about your photographer and videographer.
Our photographers and videographers were professional and personal from start to finish, both on our wedding day and during the lead-up. We will always remember the laughs and fun they brought to our engagement shoot and the wedding itself.
It’s funny, when we look back at the beautiful photos of our day, we remember what joke we were laughing about during certain shots and what conversations we were having during others. We always felt at ease and comfortable in front of the camera, and we never felt forced to pose. Everything was very natural, which is exactly what we wanted.
Would you recommend your photography team to other couples?
Absolutely YES! They were simply the best, and we now even consider them friends beyond our wedding day. One word that comes to mind is exceptional. Our photos couldn’t have been any better, and the service was first class.

Did you have wedding transport?
Yes, we had wedding cars to transport us to the venue in the morning. The only wish I have is that they could have stayed a bit longer, as this part of the day seemed to go way too fast.
What was the highlight of your day?
The highlight of our day was definitely our first dance to Tom Grennan. It’s a moment we will cherish forever. We’ll never forget our photographer dancing the night away at the end of the evening, he enjoyed it just as much as we did, and it was lovely to see.
